The institute was founded (and is managed) by Gaafiethoh ‘Aa-ieshah Ceres. The motto of the school is “Quality rather than Quantity”. Thus, our objective is to produce Gaafiethot who are confident in both memorization (knowing Qoeraan from memory with confidence) and accurate application of Tajweed. Hence, learners whose back lessons are rusty and Tajweed inaccurate, are required to fix it before proceeding with a new lesson. This way, we ensure that when students complete the memorization of Holy Qoeraan, they know the Qoeraan from cover to cover (from memory) with confidence (along with accurate application of Tajweed).
The school is very strict on discipline as well as good character and conduct. Students are reminded regularly about how a Moesliemah (more specifically a Gaafiethoh) should conduct and carry herself. In addition, learners are often prompted to revise regularly at home.
When students complete their memorization, the school has a graduation function. At this function, those who have completed are tested on memorization (without knowing what portion of the Qoeraan they will be tested on) and Tajweed by the top Goeffaath in Cape Town. Some of the Goeffaath who tests our students are: Sh. Sieroj Willenberg, Sh. ‘Abdoelloh Awaldien, Sh. Iesmaa’eel Londt, Sh. Moosaa Titus, Sh. Aboobakr Abderoef and Sh. Foe-aad Gabier. Other ‘Oelamaa that are usually present at our functions are: Sh. ‘Abdoerro-oof Abduroaf, Sh. Moeneer Abduroaf, Sh. ‘Oemar Gabier, Sh. Yaaseen Harris, Sh. ‘Abdoerrogmaan Sadien, Sh. Iegsaan Taliep (2nd deputy of the M.J.C), Sh. Agmad Sedick, Mouwlaanaa ‘Abdoel Kholieq Allie, Mouwlaanaa Aadam Adams, Sh. Iebroheem Gabriels and Mouwlaanaa Iegsaan Hendricks.
In 2009, the school celebrated its tenth anniversary (a few months in advance). We had a special guest flown to Cape Town for the event. The guest was none other than Moeftee Iesmaa’eel Menk from Zimbabwe. At this particular function, those who completed had the honour of being tested by Moeftee.
Thus far, the school has produced nine Gaafiethot, Algamdoe liellaah. Currently, there are a couple of girls in the process of completing, Ienshaa Alloh.
The school offers Tielaawatoel Qoeraan where the teachers and learners are requested to recite a Khotm on the Roog of deceased, etc. Each student gets a Joez’ or two to recite (in their spare time) and the last two Joez’ are completed (by the teachers and students) at the house of those who requested the recital (of Khotm). These sessions are very encouraging and inspirational to the listeners. Furthermore, it affords students the opportunity to gain confidence to recite publicly. Moreover, students have a chance to socialise with their peers outside the school environment.
Daaroel Foerqon accepts females of any age on condition that she is able to recite Qoeraan fluently. The youngest student to have attended this institute was aged five and the eldest sixty years.
